Finally time for us to depart for the airport. Going to miss Hanoi.

Too bad we cant go to Sapa, perhaps another time. Meracus Hotel can also help arrange for the tour to Sapa. You can view the details on their official website . But do take note that to travel to Sapa, you need to take about more than 10 hours overnight sleeper train and need strong legs cause of many hours of trekking.

The night before, we had the hotel booked a taxi for us to take us to the airport. It costs us US$16 for the trip for a four seater car. The journey from the hotel to airport is about 45 minutes.

Last minute shopping at the airport, surprising the souvenirs are not expensive, comparable with those sold in Hanoi City.

Day 5 of our trip, the day we will be leaving Hanoi. Before taking our breakfast, we went for a morning walk near Hoan Kiem Lake.

Interesting to watch the locals exercising at the Lake.

Locals taking breakfast, seems like a very local thing to do, sitting on the small stools.

Nice that they incorporate some dancing into their morning exercises.

Some short videos of the activities at Hoan Kiem Lake.

Fan Dance

Healthy morning exercise, nice to see many simply just brisk walk around the lake.

Look like fun and enjoyable just dancing away as a form of morning excercise.

Last night in Hanoi, we had dinner at Avalon Cafe and Lounge facing the Hoan Kiem Lake (next to KFC Building), very nice and cozy place with great music. The food is nice too.

Sis and me ordered the same thing, roasted chicken with rice.

Hubby had some grilled meat with rice(rice under the meat) and noodles. Forgot what meat that was.

After the whole day of walking and sightseeing, was a pleasure to find Fanny Ice Cream. The Fanny brand was set up in Vietnam in 1994, by Jean-Marc Bruno, a specialist graduated from Le Nôtre Paris school where is famous not only in France but throughout the world for training of experts for ice cream and cakes industry. Fanny ice cream is produced by traditional French methods, with 100 % natural ingredient sources chosen carefully.

Fanny Ice cream had shifted to the new premises located at 51 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi, Vietnam. It used to be near Hoan Kiem Lake.

They had so many different flavours and the ice cream looked so cute. Wanted to order the sushi look alike ice cream but they had run out of it on that day.

Hoa Lo Prison was worth visiting. The name Hoa Lo, commonly translated as "fiery furnace" or even "Hell's hole", also means "stove". The name originated from the street name phố Hỏa Lò, due to the concentration of stores selling wood stoves and coal-fire stoves along the street from pre-colonial times. The prison was built in Hanoi by the French, in dates ranging from 1886–1889[1] to 1898 to 1901, when Vietnam was still part of French Indochina. The French called the prison Maison Centrale—literally, Central House, a traditional euphemism to denote prisons in France. It was located near Hanoi's French Quarter. It was intended to hold Vietnamese prisoners, particularly political prisoners agitating for independence who were often subject to torture and execution. You can find out more information about the prison from wikipedia.

Need to purchase an admission fee of VND20,000.

It can be quite eerie in the prison museum.

Some sculptures in the museum depicting life in the prison during the early times.

Instrument used to chop off prisoner's head...omg looked so scary and eerie.

After being away from Singapore for so many days, we started to miss Singapore food. Chance upon this Singapore restaurant called Lion City Transit Restaurant and Cafe owned by a Singaporean. It is located near the St. Joseph Cathedral along the street called Nha Chung.

Along this street, there are many other restaurants too.

The restaurant is comfortable and cozy with very attentive staffs.

Vietnamese fried spring roll

Tahu Goreng (fried tofu) but prefer the tahu goreng we had back in Singapore.

OH my the curry chicken is delicious and good, we ordered some bread in addition to our rice to dip the bread into the gravy.

On the west side of Hoan Kiem Lake, are some very beautiful old buildings. We really could walked the whole morning.

Spotted along the street of Nha Chung (near the St Joseph's cathedral) was this beautiful building, realised it was a district library which could accomodate about 300 people.

St Joseph Cathedral was built in 1886 in the neo-gothic style. The church look so beautiful.

Spotted a wedding couple taking wedding photos.

A short video of street scene infront of St Joseph Cathedral.
