Batam Indonesia - Layer Cakes/Kueh Lapis

Our next stop is to visit a small factory, making kueh lapis, located in the residential area. Kueh Lapis or layer cakes are famous in Indonesia.

The factory is actually located in the kitchen of the residential house.

We are not allowed to go inside the factory but I took these photos from their next unit.
Of course I ordered one box the delicious layer cake/kueh lapis...lol. It smells so good and tasted so good too.

  2. Thomas, I forgot to take photo of the cake. It is a waste cause there are two types of the cakes, one is plain kueh lapis and the other is with fruit.

    Made with original butter, good value at S$23 only. Why is that true? Becoz, its because the $10 does not goes to the tour guides. It goes to the cake :-)

    They are baked by my Indonesian wife, from her Grand Mom's secret recipe, using only Golden Churn Butter. Guaranteed freshness, since we have 5 branches in BCSMall, Nagoya Hill, Harbour Bay City Walk, KepriMall, and Skupang International Ferry Terminal. It can also be found on weekends at Batam Center Ferry Terminal @ Kaya Toast cafe.

    Nevertheless, its as simple as these when selecting Batam Kueh Lapis:
    1. Check out the malls. There you can sort and select-
    2. Check out only branded cakes. This means the chefs are serious about their cake, not just another mom who know the tour guide and 'titip' them for sale.There are many manufacturers that sell cakes without brands.
    3. Taste the cake itself, find those that really suit your buds.
    4. If they have many branches, it usually means they have to bake daily to distribute to their branches. If they own only a single shop, it simply means that they have to finish off their stock even though its already 3-5 days on the counter, which is why some people experience bad quality cakes from Batam.
    5. Choose the ones with PIRT 206 ( PIRT means Home Industry, equivalent to HOME MADE), which means they are registered in the Health Authority in Batam. Other numbers means they are outside Batam, meaning not so fresh.
    6. CTC: Check, Taste, and Compare.

  8. I have tried and is not nice.. Wasted cab fare just to go down and buy :( I think royal kueh lapis more worth than Diana..

  9. I guess everyone's have different opinion and taste. My friends and I kind of like the kueh lapis of Diana's. But will try the others if I get a chance to go Batam again.
