Ipoh Trip - Taking Electric Train Service (ETS) to Ipoh from KL Sentral

After exiting from the KLIA fast train station, we arrived in KL Sentral. KL Sentral is a transportation hub where the trains, buses, light rail transit, taxis, etc are located.

We wanted to take the ETS (electric train which started operation in 2010 only and not the KTM diesel train which is much slower)to Ipoh, and to locate the ETS ticket office is easy, just looked on the floor for the ETS logo or arrow to direct you to the ticketing office. Incase there's no arrow, just turn right once you exit from the KLIA fast train gantry and go one floor up to the ticketing office. If all fails, just get information from the information counter located in the central of KL Sentral. They can speak English.

As it was a weekday, we have no problem getting our tickets, the next available train to Ipoh was 2 pm which was suitable for us. We asked for the seats to face forward. The seats in the trains do not rotate so some seats are facing forward or backward. We are lucky to get the forward facing for the trip to Ipoh and we also bought our return tickets from Ipoh to KL Sentral but got the backward facing seats which is not that bad either. I just lowered the window shutter and plug in my MP3 and I wont feel the train going backwards. The ticket costs RM35 for the gold class which takes 2 hrs and 15 mins to reach Ipoh from KL Sentral. Our return ticket was for the silver class which costs RM25 which takes 2 hrs 30 mins. There's another class known as Platinum Class RM45 which takes 1 hr 58 mins plus free breakfast.

Looked at the ticket for the gate no. to board the train, mostly is Gate B. Gate B is just next to Dunkin Donut. Best to be at the gate at least 30 minutes beforehand.

The seats were very comfortable and could be reclined backwards. I was so excited as this was the first time I was travelling on ETS.

There's a cafe in the middle of the train, where you could purchase food and drinks. No outside food are allowed in the train.

There's some movies in the trains to entertain passengers but I just doze off in the train listening to my MP3 lol.

Ipoh Station is the last station for the ETS service. Oh, do remember to check the train no. before you board the train as circled in the above photo. The train no. and Gate no. to board should be reflected on your ticket.

For more information and seat availability you can view their ETS official website. You can book the tickets online too but as long as it is non public holidays, school holidays or weekends, think should not be a problem to just purchase the tickets on the day itself just as what we did.

PLEASE ASK PERMISSION BEFORE YOU RE POST MY PHOTOS ON TO YOUR BLOG. THERE ARE SOME BLOGGERS WHO DID NOT ASK MY PERMISSION AND REPOST MY PHOTOS WITHOUT THE COURTESY OF LINKING BACK TO MY BLOG. THIS IS LIKE STEALING. PEOPLE, I HAVE SPEND MUCH TIME TAKING PHOTOS AND DOING HOMEWORK ON MY TRAVELLING INFORMATION AND KINDLY SHARE THESE INFORMATION TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN THEM. IF NECESSARY I WILL POST SCREEN SHOT OF YOUR BLOG TO SHOW YOUR BAD MANNERS OF STEALING MY PHOTOS. THE MOST DISGUSTING THING THEY DID WAS TO SCREEN SHOT MY PHOTO AND CORP OFF MY BLOG TITLE AND REPOST IN THEIR BLOG.

JC, thanks a million time for your help hahaha, almost give up blogging. I first learn about ETS from a travel programme on Singapore TV, the host took the ETS train from Ipoh to one or two stops away so I google about ETS and found about the KL/Ipoh Sector. You must try it out, very comfortable ride. Was a pleasant Ipoh trip for us. :) Wish ETS will have a sector from Singapore to KL hahaha, so much better than the slow KTM diesel train.

hi! are the seats all in a single direction? am booking tickets online but on the website it doesn't specify if the seats are in dual direction (ie one facing the direction the train is moving and another seat opposite of the direction headed). any help? :)

Hi Eunice, the seats are not in same direction(i.e. in the same cabin half face one direction and the other half face another direction). I did not book online, I got the tickets on the actual day itself and managed to get the onwards facing direction from KL to Ipoh but on the return journey is backwards facing. Did not face any effect cause I closed the window shutter to dim the sunlight and listening to my music on my MP3 and managed to have a good short nap.
