Penang Malaysia-Famous Penang Biscuits

PLEASE ASK PERMISSION BEFORE YOU RE POST MY PHOTOS ON TO YOUR BLOG. THERE ARE SOME BLOGGERS WHO DID NOT ASK MY PERMISSION AND REPOST MY PHOTOS WITHOUT THE COURTESY OF LINKING BACK TO MY BLOG. THIS IS LIKE STEALING. PEOPLE, I HAVE SPEND MUCH TIME TAKING PHOTOS AND DOING HOMEWORK ON MY TRAVELLING INFORMATION AND KINDLY SHARE THESE INFORMATION TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN THEM. IF NECESSARY I WILL POST SCREEN SHOT OF YOUR BLOG TO SHOW YOUR BAD MANNERS OF STEALING MY PHOTOS. THE MOST DISGUSTING THING THEY DID WAS TO SCREEN SHOT MY PHOTO AND CORP OFF MY BLOG TITLE FROM MY PHOTO AND REPOST THEM IN THEIR BLOG.

We managed to find the factory that sold the famous Penang Biscuits or what the locals called Penang Tau Sar Piah also known as mung bean pastry. It is so tasty and yummy. We bought a few boxes then we realised they were so heavy so we did not return to visit the Sun Yat Sen Musuem after lunch hours...lol. We went back to the hotel to rest after walking for so long. Near the shop is a bus stop with no bus numbers on them but managed to take Bus no. 101 back to Cititel Hotel.

There are so many companies selling the Penang famous biscuits but I thought the biscuits baked by Ghee Hiang are very tasty and good.

They have a history of 155 years. You can see more of their products from their official website.

Outside the shop are these super cute dolls. I wasted no time taking photos and posing with them. :) They have many branches all over Penang, the one I went to was at 216 Macalister Road10400 PenangMalaysia. It is diagonally opposite the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall or few streets away from Lorong Selamat. By the way Sun Yat Memorial Hall is about two bus stops away from Komtar. You can take Bus no. 101 (the bus that I am very familar with...lol). Am sure there are other buses but the time interval for service bus no. 101 is about 7 minutes so you can assure that you dont to wait long for service no. 101.

Penang Malaysia-Street Scenes

After lunch at a coffeeshop/eating house near the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, we walked towards the factory where they sold the famous Penang Biscuits.

But a street looked so familar to me cause I read on the internet about this street where the famous Char Kway Teow stall is. The street is Lorong Selamat. The lady is famous for her delicious char kway teow and was said to be the best in the whole of Penang and also the most expensive. Normally others sold at RM3.00 or RM4.00 but hers was above RM6.00 for small plate. Argghhh, hubby and me already taken our lunch and so we thought maybe ordered a plate and we both shared but when we passed the stall the chilli was quite hurtful to the eyes, I guess it must be very spicy although you can ordered the non spicy version.

So we changed our mind cause we were really very full already, perhaps the next time I visit Penang, I will come here again and try her Char Kway Teow.

Oh just some gossip, she is also famous for being rude to her customers...hahaha

There are other stalls along this street too. I should have discovered this street earlier before I take my lunch.

For those interested, Lorong Selamat is few streets away and opposite Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. You can find the location of Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall from the Penang Map.

It is easy to find food around Penang just like Singapore. There are eating houses like the above or what we called them coffeeshop.

During my four full days in Penang, I never entered any restaurants to dine...lol. I just wanted to try the local food.

After staying few days in Penang, we are quite familar with the bus routes...lol. Wanted to visit the museum just like I visit the same in China and Singapore. Admired Dr. Sun Yat Sen very much.

Like the statues and hubby and me had a great time posing with the statues.

You can read more about the history about this great man from wikipedia.

Quite sad that the museum was closed during lunch time so we did not get to visit it.

Penang Malaysia - Ferry Bus Terminal

Been walking the whole morning, hubby and me very tired and feeling very hot due to the hot weather. We were too lazy to walk back to see other attractions in the heritage trail. Wanted to visit the peranakan museum but too much things to see in the heritage trail and not enough time...lol. Perhaps I will visit when I next visit Penang.

We decided to take the bus back to komtar area. The bus terminal is just next to the ferry terminal. All buses in Penang will stop here and they will make loop services around the island and most will pass through Komtar.

They have different section for different buses at the ferry terminal. We decided to take bus no. 101 (the bus route that we very familar with...lol) to Macalister Road to visit Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial Museum and then to buy some famous Penang Biscuits.

Penang Malaysia - Ferry Terminal

PLEASE DO NOT REPOST MY PHOTOS WITHOUT PERMISSION.

After walking for about 10 to 15 minutes from the clock tower, we finally arrived the ferry terminal. It looked so beautiful, better than I expected. I was thinking it would liked very old and dirty.

Church Street Pier looked so beautiful. It was renovated and there are restaurants located within the pier. It used to be main pier for small boats to unload their wares.

At the other side of the pier, I can see the cruise ship docking there. I guess the cruise ship comes from Singapore cause my sister ever took the cruise ship before and she told me she had a day tour of Penang when the cruise ship docked at Penang.

Far end of the pier is a restaurant.

Another restaurant near the pier.

On the other side of the pier is the ferry terminal where ferry ferried passengers and vehicles to and fro between mainland Malaysia and Penang. I remember when I was a child, I ever took the ferry before. We were on a seven days tour of Malaysia back then. We visited a few places in Malaysia including Penang and the tour bus took us to penang via the ferry.

Taking some fun photo with the balloon in the sky.

Penang Malaysia - Street Scenes

After visitng the clock tower, we decided to head to the ferry terminal. Looking at the Penang Map, helps us to reach there. Along the way, we saw many beautiful buildings and interesting sights.

The weather was so hot, we seek shelter in some of the air conditioned buildings...lol.

This road leads to the ferry terminal.

Great way to built around the tree then to chop the tree off. Very interesting sight.

Another clock tower (not sure what building this is), seems like some renovation is going on. The ferry terminal is opposite this building.

Please return to visit tomorrow for photos of the ferry terminal.

This Clocktower was built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria by a rich businessman.

The tower is about 60 feet tall and seems like leaning to one side due to the bombing during World War II.

There's a sculpture at the round about near the clock tower. It is known as the sphere and very eye catching.

Fort Cornwallis is the site where Captain Francis Light landed. The fort was built to protect British royal artillery troops from possible French attacks (Anglo-French rivalry was at its peak at the time), the fort was christened “Cornwallis” after the late 18th century Governor-General of Bengal, India, Charles Marquis Cornwallis. You can read more about the fort from source.
