Morning breakfast at Amalia Hotel in Kalambaka, after breakfast will be visit to two monasteries. The breakfast were sumptous and lots of varities. Almost every morning the breakfast were good to keep us full of energy for the rest of the day.
After breakfast, we checked out of hotel and went visit to two monasteries of Meterora where we can see exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. Perched on huge granite rocks, the monasteries seem to suspend between earth and sky, providing a magnificent view. Each monastery contains priceless historical and religious treasures.
Great view of the mountains.
Ladies need to wear skirts to visit the monasteries or tie a scarf (provided free at the entrance) around our waist.
We could only photograph at the museum but not inside the religious area.
Ancient times, the monks were hoisted up to the monastery from the rope and basket but now there are stairs.
Visit of second monastery, most places out of bound for photography.
We had lunch at a very traditional Greek restaurant and have a traditional greek lunch.
Bread
Very hot vegetable soup
Greek salad
Chicken kebabs and fries and rice
Dessert
After lunch, start our journey to return back to Athens bypassing Trikala, Lamia and Thermopylae where a stop will be made to visit the memorial of Leonidas and the brave 300 Spartians.
The journey back to Athens will take us more than 3 hours cause of traffic jam too.
After the long trip back to Athens, we checked into a new hotel. Port Tower Hotel is near the port so that we could take the ferry to Mykonos Island the next morning and catch the 6 am ferry but at last very bad news we had to miss the early ferry (will post about it at the next post).
Very nice and cozy hotel, everything in here looked very new.
We were so tired to get out of the hotel to hunt for dinner. So the next best thing was to eat some cup noodles that we brought from Singapore. Hahaha comfort food.
I brought my own electric portable travel kettle that boils very fast, only 5 mins to boil.
Our cup noodles, need some soupy stuff after so many days of missing Singapore food/
